rule of thirds makes your eyes look towards the center then find the main point of focus.
The Rule of Thirds works because if the picture is directly in the center then it doesn’t draw as much attention than if it was in 1 or 2 of the 4 corners in the middle box.
The only I’m its OK to break the Rule of Thirds is when is if balance is what you’re trying to express

The rule of thirds works to cause more interests and attention to one or a couple of areas. Its okay to break the rule of thirds when the picture is the same everywhere else.
The rule of thirds works because when the subject is in the center of the photo, it appears static to the viewer as it draws the eye in and then there is nothing else to look at. Using the rule of thirds allows the eyes to linger longer on the picture, by the eyes following the center of the photo to the subject. The proper way to break the rule is to first know the rule, and shots of a portrait or couple with the focus on depth in the background. Breaking the rule of thirds shows creativity but is most effective when the rule is first understood.
The rule of thirds is important because you can bring the persons eyes to another park of the picture or to so show more detail, instead of looking in the center it moves yours eyes away to show more detail.
The rule of thirds works because when the object of your photo is on the edge your eyes follows it. If the object was in the middle, it would make you feel “odd”. You should only break the rule when you’re trying to express balance.
